By joining forces, the nation’s oldest and largest [cannabis] advocacy and reform organization gains access to the cutting edge technologies developed by HeadCount, which is the parent organization of the Cannabis Voter Project, to readily register new voters online and to allow individuals to update their current voter registration status and/or request an absentee ballot.

You can view the new tool here: https://norml.org/act/register-to-vote

“In this historic election cycle, who we elect to represent us in Congress and in Statehouses around the country will determine whether our progress will continue moving forward, or slide backward into the prohibitionist past,” said NORML Political Director Justin Strekal. “At a time when a supermajority of Americans support [cannabis] legalization, it is critical that voters who care deeply about reform make their voices heard this November.”

“NORML has been mobilizing people around cannabis issues for 50 years—they’ve been at it longer than just about anyone else,” says Cannabis Voter Project director Sam D’Arcangelo. “We’re thrilled to help them get their members and anyone else who cares about cannabis policy prepared to vote in this crucial election.”

About NORML: Since its founding in 1970, NORML has provided a voice in the public policy debate for those Americans who oppose [cannabis] prohibition and favor an end to the practice of arresting [cannabis] consumers. A nonprofit public-interest advocacy group, NORML represents the interests of the tens of millions of Americans who use [cannabis] responsibly.

Earlier this year NORML launched Smoke the Vote, and with the help of hundreds of NORML volunteers and contributors just like you, we have created the most comprehensive [cannabis] policy voter guide ever compiled. You can search the database here.

About the Cannabis Voter Project: Cannabis Voter Project informs, registers and turns out voters who are interested in cannabis policy. Launched by civic engagement organization HeadCount.org in 2018, our goal is to make sure the cannabis community is an active and informed voting bloc.

About HeadCount: HeadCount is a non-partisan organization that uses the power of music to register voters and promote participation in democracy. We reach young people and music fans where they already are – at concerts and online – to inform and empower.

###

NORML advocates for changes in public policy so that the responsible possession and use of [cannabis] by adults is no longer subject to criminal penalties. NORML further advocates for a regulated commercial cannabis market so that activities involving the for-profit production and retail sale of cannabis and cannabis products are safe, transparent, consumer-friendly, and are subject to state and/or local licensure. Finally, NORML advocates for additional changes in legal and regulatory policies so that those who use marijuana responsibly are no longer face either social stigma or workplace discrimination, and so that those with past criminal records for [cannabis]-related violations have the opportunity to have their records automatically expunged.
