As its enigmatic name suggests, The Clear™ is the clearest, purest form of THC you can currently—and most likely ever could—consume. It looks like straight-up magic, and had it appeared just a few years earlier, before cannabis extraction was even a thing, it might have been taken for such.
What is The Clear™?
The Clear™ is basically what you get when you take other cannabis extracts a few steps further – a transparent, golden goo ball with a THC concentration of up to 98.85%. It is advertised as being 100% solvent-free, pesticide-free, and organic.
The Clear™ is similar to THC-A crystals, but with one major improvement – the distillate is decarboxylated to ∆9-THC, meaning it can be readily ingested sublingually, or added into other products like food and drinks, or even applied to transdermal substrates.
How is The Clear™ Made?
The Clear™ is made through a process called “short path distillation”. Other extraction methods can usually achieve between 70% and 85% potency, and “short path distillation” basically builds on them and their “raw oil” by additional refining the oil until it becomes a tiny step removed from pure perfection.
This process is actually surprisingly simple, as far as chemistry goes, anyway. “Raw oils” are heated with one sole purpose – extracting the maximum amounts of THC. All other compounds are irrelevant. With the help of a “wiped film evaporator”, cannabinoids are thermally separated from terpenes as the two have different boiling points. The concentrate is boiled at a high pressure but low temperature enough times until all impurities are gone. Once the THC boils and turns into gas, it is moved to a separate container where it is cooled into a solid, odorless, and flavorless form – The Clear™.
Advantages/Disadvantages
Being made up almost entirely of THC, all terpenes and other cannabinoids are sacrificed in the name of this distillate’s unmatched purity. This means two things.
First, it’s flavorless and odorless, which can be a pro or con, depending on one’s vantage point. For some cannabis enthusiasts, stronger simply means better. And some medical patients may need extremely high doses of pure THC. But for others, high cannabinoid purity might not be worth giving up all the smells and flavors they associate with their cannabis experience.
The second point – no terpenes or other cannabinoids means no entourage effect. The Clear™ might be the purest THC product out there, but it’s also one-dimensional, and sometimes, the magical synergy between all the different cannabinoids can mean more than even 100% of THC purity.
It certainly doesn’t hurt to have a product as awe-inspiring as this. Even if it isn’t to your particular liking, one thing is undeniable – The Clear™ is a transparent, yet very prominent testament to the cannabis industry’s major progress.
