LONGMONT, Colorado — December 12, 2018…The StarStrike Stainless R5 Cold Ethanol Extractor easily processes up to 1,000 pounds (453 Kg) per shift of plant material, extracting large quantities of desired cannabinoids. It produces a very clean tincture that requires little or no clean-up. The R5’s cold ethanol process enables the extractor to wash the desired cannabinoids at very low temperatures, thereby keeping out unwanted fats, lipids and chlorophyll while ensuring a fast and efficient wash. Typical wash times run from 30 to 60 minutes.
The R5 system includes a customized 60,000 BTU/hour industrial chiller that easily maintains temperatures as low as -20⁰ C. With an input of 1,000 pounds of plant material, the extractor produces 200 gallons (757 liters) of cold, clean super-saturated tincture, which typically yields 20 gallons (almost 76 liters) of hyper-tincture after ethanol recovery. The hyper-tincture is perfect as feed stock for fractional distillation or other post-processing.

The R5 extractor provides further value since it can be used for a second extraction of previously extracted material – such as flower tops extracted using butane, or rosin-press leftovers – or to process less-desirable plant parts like low- grade trim and stems.
While there are many different methods of extraction available, the R5 extractor uses food-grade ethanol because it is simple to use, safe, inexpensive, and has a very low carbon footprint. Unlike solvents such as hexane or butane, it does not leave any hydrocarbon residue. Ethanol is safe for human consumption and is easily stored at room temperature and pressure in a sealed, non-flammable container.
The R5 Cold Ethanol Extractor has been peer-reviewed and approved by Pressure Safety Inspectors (PSI) and currently is approved for use in Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Hawaii, Maryland, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, Nevada, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania and Washington.
